A simple and effective way to lower your Eco Anxiety today.

How to combat eco anxiety with one simple change.
One simple change to combat eco anxiety.

What is eco anxiety?

Do you suffer from eco anxiety?  A sense of fear, worry and stress over the state of our planet and global warming?   What if you could make a substantial difference in, for example, the undeniable plastic problem threatening our planet? What if you could do it without changing your life, giving anything up, or even suffering the slightest inconvenience? And what if, at the same time, you could protect your own health, lower your anxiety levels, and even save money.

How bad is the plastic water bottle problem?

Consider something as ordinary as a single-use plastic water bottle. Americans purchase around 50 billion every year, or 170 bottles per person.  It is estimated that by 2030 this industry will be worth $12 billion! The threat these bottles and this industry pose to our planet are not a well kept secret.   We see the evidence all around us. Anyone who claims they are unaware of the problem is simply kidding themselves.  Plastic garbage patch?  Dead rivers and waterway in Asia, Africa and South America?  Walk on any street or go to any park or beach in the US and there they are!

Why do we ignore science and reality?

Scientists and environmentalists have been sounding the alarm for years.  It’s in the news, on social media and in front of our faces, yet somehow the industry continues to boom.  This provides a very clear example of how an industry can convince an entire generation to distrust what we can see with our own eyes. We see the mountains of plastic waste, the pollution of our oceans, and the enormous resources required to produce, transport, and dispose of single-use bottles, and yet we have been encouraged to accept these consequences as the unavoidable price of convenience.

The carbon footprint for bottled water is between 300 and 500 times that of tap water!

One more terribly kept secret: recycling is NOT the answer. Only about 10% of all plastic is ever recycled.

So, if you want to take back some power, protect your health, save money, and do something tangible about the plastic problem, stop buying beverages in plastic bottles.

It really is that simple.

You don’t have to wait for corporations to change. You don’t have to wait for politicians to pass new laws. You don’t have to become an environmental activist, radically change your lifestyle, or give up something you love. You can start with one incredibly ordinary choice: the next time you reach for a plastic bottle, don’t.

Fill a reusable bottle instead. Carry it with you. Make it a habit.

We have been told that our individual choices don’t matter. That changing our behavior is inconvenient. That the problem is too big for any of us to influence.

Maybe it’s time we stopped believing that.

The easiest way to take back a  little power is to recognize that we do have choices and then make the right ones.

Bottled water is not better than tap water. Here is why.
